Greetings from Kathy's kitchen! I had a nice long weekend with the house all to myself - the perfect opportunity to try out another Three Sisters Bake recipe. I decided on "Chocolate Splodge" on page 187. It looks delicious and is described as "one of the simplest recipes in the book". A big selling point! It has a very short ingredients list - but actually I needed to purchase pretty much everything. ;)
There was one small curveball in this recipe, and that is that it requires "digestive biscuits." I admit it - I had to google them! They are semi-sweet cookies that originated in the UK. More googling ensued and I found I could probably find them at the local World Market. And we did! Nicki and I went on a mission to the World Market and were successful in finding authentice digestives! I did read that graham crackers can be used as a substitute in a pinch.

Without giving too much away, you do have to crush up the digestive biscuits. I probably should have mashed them into smaller pieces, that would have worked much better and would have made for a much prettier final product.

What makes this a really simple recipe is that it doesn't require any cooking other than melting a few ingredients on the stovetop. Easy right?? Yes! Once I had everything put together, I put it in a baking pan to set.

After it set for awhile, there was one more melty step:

Then it went in the fridge to set some more. I will say it took longer for it really to set firmly than I expected. It looks a bit more "rustic" than the nice neat brownie shaped bars that are shown in the book. They are delicious however - very rich. When my family comes home tomorrow they'll be pretty psyched to enjoy this treat!!
